A new creation environment for film, animation and game artists.

Design, paint and retouch in a node graph where nothing is ever destroyed — computed on the GPU, in film-grade colour, and fast at very high resolution. With a library of royalty-free RAW photographs built in. Your projects never leave your machine.

Hero clip goes here

Screen capture of the real app: a design changed by editing one node, then F2 → search → download → the photo arrives in the project as a node.

Today

A generalist retouching tool, a compositor, a stock site you have to leave. Every hand-off between them costs precision, and every change the client asks for means redoing work that was already done.

Instead

One environment where every step of the image stays editable. A new direction from the client is a change to one node, not an afternoon of repainting — and the photographs you need are one keystroke away.

Nothing is ever destroyed

Each operation — a photo, a colour correction, a brush pass, a blur — is a node you can revisit at any time. Explore several directions, go back, deliver a variant in minutes.

Built on the GPU

Everything is computed on the graphics card, so the canvas stays responsive at resolutions where most image editors slow to a crawl.

Film-grade colour

16-bit floating point, linear light and ACES colour management — the standard of film pipelines, from the first photo to the delivered frame.

Your work stays yours

Projects are made and kept on your machine, never uploaded. The cloud holds the library, nothing else. Safe for work under NDA, by design.

150,000 RAW photographs

Skies, landscapes, cities and textures, shot by one photographer for people who make images — and licensed royalty-free for commercial work. Graphic artists need photographs both to find ideas and to build their images; good ones with clear rights are hard to find. PP Library is that, and it opens inside PP Studio.

About the library
  • RAW originals at full camera resolution, so a photo can be re-exposed and re-graded to sit in a film image.
  • No rights to clear. Film, TV, games, advertising — no per-project fee, and what you downloaded stays licensed to you.
  • No habits to change. Use it from a browser with the tools you already have, or from inside PP Studio.

Works with what you already use

For artists

You do not have to change everything at once. Start with the library in the tools you use today. Bring PP Studio into one step of your work — design, retouching, building an environment — and exchange images with the rest of your chain in standard formats: EXR, TIFF, PNG, JPEG.

For studios

PP Studio plugs into the pipeline you have already built rather than asking you to replace it: an embedded Python environment lets your technical directors script it and connect it. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, and projects never leave your workstations.

Who makes it

Painting Puffin is built by an artist trained at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris, who spent eight years in visual effects as a virtual-environment specialist — on more than a hundred projects, from Hollywood films and music videos for world-famous artists to theme-park rides and advertising. He wrote the software because the tool he needed did not exist.

Where it stands

  • Not released yet. The first public release ships for Windows, macOS and Linux together. Sales open once the company's registration and the payment provider's approval are through.
  • The library is being completed. 150,000 photographs will be online for launch; they are being prepared and checked until then.
  • The library opens in its own window inside the app. You browse, download, and the photo is waiting in your project as a node.
  • No 3D projection or deep compositing yet. They are on the roadmap: the aim is one tool for the whole shot.
  • Your projects never leave your machine. That is a design constraint, not a setting you can turn off.
