Painting Puffin Studio
A creation environment for the images of film, animation and games — for designing, painting, retouching and building environments, with every step still editable.
- A node graph for painting and retouching. Every step of the image is a node you can reopen at any time. Nodes have been the standard of compositing for twenty years; PP Studio brings them to the part of the work that is painting, retouching and design.
- Non-destructive by construction. The original is never altered, and a decision made an hour ago is still a decision rather than a flattened pixel. Iterating on a client's notes becomes a matter of minutes.
- Computed on the GPU. Most image editors still do their heavy lifting on the processor and slow down on very large images. PP Studio computes everything on the graphics card, so it stays interactive where they stall.
- Film-grade colour. 16-bit floating point, linear light and ACES colour management, from the photo you import to the frame you deliver — the precision film and animation pipelines expect.
- Painting tools built for image makers. Pressure response, paint mixing and textured brushes, including brushes made for environments — foliage, clouds — working directly in the graph.
- Ready for your pipeline. An embedded Python environment to script it and connect it to your studio's tools, and standard formats in and out: EXR, TIFF, PNG, JPEG.
- Your projects stay yours. Projects are made and kept on your machine, never uploaded, with their history kept as you work.
- Windows, macOS and Linux. The same application on all three systems at launch — including Linux, where much of studio production runs.
Not yet: 3D projection and deep compositing. PP Studio is starting where today's tools are weakest — design and retouching — and growing towards a single tool for the whole shot. See the roadmap.
Free to try: 7 days, starting the first time you sign in to Studio.
